Matt Thaler is a jazz, blues and rock pianist. He’s played gigs across the east coast - at fundraisers, private parties and restaurants. After studying at Berklee College of Music, he moved to and currently resides in Los Angeles.

Matt’s teaching subverts traditional approaches, emphasizing learning piano through the songs his students love. Chords, rhythms and improvisation are the building blocks to playing and are the focus of lessons.

For aspiring jazz musicians, Matt and his students pick tunes to focus on specific targeted learning. Week to week, students will learn voicings, how to swing and ways to incorporate tensions - eventually building to more sophisticated techniques including soloing, comping, inner harmonies and voice leadings.
